Swimnastics | Hammond
The Hammond Area YMCA is now holding open registration for the November session of Swimnastics, a low impact aerobics class in shallow water, ideal for people of all ages including seniors and pregnant women. Swimnastic classes promote strength, increased mobility and flexibility, improved circulation and relaxation without the impact of land aerobics. Classes are free to members and cost $40 for a two-day a week period or $60 for a three-day week period for nonmembers. Hammond Area YMCA is at 7322 Southeastern Ave.

Concert | Highland
The Highland Community Concert Band will present its fall concert at 3 p.m. today at the Lincoln Center, 2450 Lincoln St. The free concert will feature band classics and Halloween music. Concerts are sponsored by Highland Parks & Recreation.

Costume parade | East Chicago
The East Chicago Public Library will host a Halloween costume parade and party beginning at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 30 at the Main Library, 2401 E. Columbus Drive. They will tell monster stories, make Halloween crafts, watch a scary movie and have a reading raffle to win free costumes. Two costumes per age group will be raffled. The children will parade their own costumes throughout the library and trick or treat through the various departments. The program is free.

Interior design | Munster
Award winning designers, JoAnn Collins of Montage Interiors and Phylis Mamula of Designtech, are collaborating on the Rainbow Project, a free interior design seminar for flood survivors. The seminar, Where to go from here ... creating the home or office you desire, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 1 at Ridge United Methodist Church, 8607 Columbia Ave. Participants are encouraged to bring project questions and photos for discussion. Attendees will receive free design tips. Registration is required by Oct. 27.

Blood drive | Hammond
The National Honor Society of Bishop Noll Institute with the Heartland Blood Centers is sponsoring a blood drive from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at the school. Parents, relatives, alumni and neighbors are encouraged to donate along with students. No parental permission is required for students who are 17 years or older. Minors must have a signed parental permission slip which includes the parent's daytime or cell phone number. A photo ID is required for all donors. Walk-ins are accepted but must report to the main office.

DIABETES AWARENESS | Gary
Northwest Indiana Health Disparity Initiative-Region I, along with The Office of Minority
Health, Indiana State Department of Health and the Statewide Minority Diabetes Alliance, will host a diabetes awareness conference entitled Too Sweet for Your Own Good from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Genesis Conference Center, One Genesis Plaza. The conference will feature regional physicians, clinicians and educators providing state-of-the-art information on disparities in treatment, living with and preventing diabetes. Conference admission and lunch is free to all attendees. Registration is required.

Fall Frolic | Hammond
Registration is under way for the Purdue University Calumet Fitness Center's annual Fall Frolic 4-Mile Run/1.5-Mile Walk, taking place at 9 a.m. Nov. 6.
Part of the Gold Cup race series, the race features a course through neighborhood streets adjacent to Purdue Calumet's Hammond campus that is flat, fast and TAC certified.
