PORTAGE | Portage police this afternoon reported an attempted child abduction in the Savannah Heights neighborhood.

At 12:34 p.m. Thursday, Portage police received a call that a 10-year-old boy who was walking home from school was asked to get into a vehicle by an unknown man driving a black vehicle at the intersection of Oglethorpe Avenue and Mason Street.

According to police, the boy continued walking down the sidewalk and refused to get into the vehicle, but the man started to get out of his vehicle and approach the boy. The boy ran home and told his parents, who called police.

The boy told police the man was white, about 6 feet tall, had dark hair and no facial hair. The man was said to be drinking a beer and have a silver handgun attached to his hip, according to police.

Anyone with information may contact the Portage Police Department at (219) 762-3122.
