HIGHLAND | Coming next week to your computer or iPod will be audio downloads of various town events and activities, Town Council members said.
Starting Monday, Highland resident Kim Fenolio will offer weekly 15-minute podcasts that can be downloaded through iTunes and at the town's Web site and Fenolio's site -- www.highlandpodcast.com.
Fenolio played a 2.5-minute podcast as a sample Monday during the council's study session. The sample already is posted at Fenolio's Web site.
A podcast is an audio or video file that can be downloaded from a Web site to a computer or portable device. Downloads of Highland events will be audio only.
There will be no charge to download Highland podcasts.
If residents show enough interest, Fenolio said she would probably make one of the month's four podcasts a 45-minute episode.
"I'll be presenting Highland in the best light possible," she said of her plan to make audio recordings of various happenings.
Recordings would feature events or activities, such as the annual Memorial Day service or classes at the Lincoln Center, Fenolio said.
Fenolio said she would generally avoid recording governmental board meetings.
"What people want to hear" is what will be put on the podcasts, she said.
Meetings of great town interest would be considered, she said.
Council Vice President Joseph Wszolek, R-4th, said the podcasts are a "great idea."
"This is a 21st-century solution to a 21st-century communications problem," Wszolek said.
