INDIANAPOLIS | Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jill Long Thompson has scheduled a pair of stops in Northwest Indiana Friday to participate in the region's July 4 festivities.
Long Thompson, a former congresswoman from northeast Indiana, is set to begin the day in her hometown of Argos, in Marshall County, her campaign said Wednesday.
She plans to drop by Valparaiso's Independence Day celebration in Will Park about 12:15 p.m on Friday. From there, Long Thompson will travel to downtown Gary for a planned 3:15 p.m. stop at the city's July 4 festivities at The Steel Yard.
Long Thompson, whose political career began two decades ago as a Valparaiso City Council member, is seeking to unseat Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels. The two will square off in the Nov. 4 general election.
