Lansing man waives detention, preliminary hearings
Times Staff Report
A 44-year-old Lansing man charged with robbing the First Savings Bank of Hegewisch in Lansing will be held without bond pending trial.
Thomas Cunningham was arrested with more than $1,200 taken Friday from the bank, authorities said
U.S. attorney's office spokesman Randall Samborn on Tuesday said the Lansing man waived his rights to both a bond hearing and a probable cause hearing, and further proceedings have yet to be scheduled.
Police said a man entered the bank at 18207 Burnham Ave. about 12:25 p.m Friday and told a teller, "I need you to do me a favor." He then handed the teller a note demanding money.
Police saw a man who matched a witness description on a bicycle not far from the bank.
Police followed the man.
When Cunningham spotted police, he ran through a Chicago Avenue residence and out the back door before being apprehended near a wooded area north of 178th Street and Chicago Avenue, police said.
