About Kim: Lansing resident with two daughters: Erin and Katie. Bachelor's degree in education from Purdue University. Master's degrees in curriculum and instruction from National Louis University and educational administration from Governors State University. Employed by Lansing School District 158 for 17 years. Loves to knit.

Accomplishments: Kim Morley is principal at Oak Glen School with approximately 500 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. She is focused on preparing students, helping them succeed and teaching them to be respectful and to get along. Morley strives to create a safe environment at the school that is conducive to learning and works closely with teachers on academic and behavioral issues. "We work together as a team," she said. "I don't feel it's me in charge here. We work together. I can't do it alone." Morley interacts with students in the hallways, outside the building and in the classroom. She surprised students last year with a good behavior incentive. Morley took 100 fourth- and fifth- grade students who had no infractions for behavior to a Cubs game. "Grades are one thing, but when it comes to behavior, we can all follow the rules," she said. Morley supports the school's good conduct parties that are celebrated at the end of each grading period. She also is happy so many

students are participating in the school's new Fit Club that meets twice a week. "I feel Oak Glen is a wonderful school, we're a family and the kids know they can come and talk to us. I want them to know it's a place somebody cares about them," she added.

Personal hero: "My mom. She always told me I could do whatever I wanted. Whatever path I decided to follow she supported me."

Why I'm in education: "I always wanted to be a teacher. I never wanted to do anything else. Education was very important when I was growing up. I wanted to do that and be a part of someone else's life."

People might be surprised to know: "I have a small catering business and I try to knit for charities such as hospice."
