A Windfall, Ind. man was thrown through the windshield of his vehicle on Interstate 65 near Roselawn Friday morning after falling asleep while driving.

According to Indiana State Police, Senior Trooper Rick Strong responded to the crash at 6:50 a.m. and found John E. Miller, 19, was southbound on I-65 at the 224 mile marker just north of the Fair Oaks exit when he fell asleep.

Miller drove his 1997 Ford Ranger off the westside of the road and rolled the truck twice, police said. Miller, who was not wearing his seat belt, was thrown out the front windshield and landed about 50 feet from the truck, which had come to rest on the driver's side, police said.

Miller was taken to Jasper County Hospital with multiple lacerations, a broken neck, back, and femur.

"I hope everyone takes the few seconds it takes to buckle up their seat belt," Strong said. "This crash would have been a property damage crash if only this driver had."
