CALUMET CITY | Calumet City police arrested a Riverdale man suspected of burglary on Monday night.

Johntrell Edwards, 19, of Riverdale, has been charged with residential burglary, Calumet City police Capt. Dan Zorzi said. Police arrested Edwards at his home at 8:10 p.m., he said.

Edwards is accused of burglarizing a home in the 800 block of Buffalo Avenue on Oct. 18, 2007, Zorzi said.

"The scene was processed and latent prints recovered," he said. "On Jan. 2, we received a response from the state crime lab that the prints received were a match to Johntrell."

As soon as police heard back from the crime lab they were able to make the arrest, Zorzi said. The backlog was not unusual, he said.

"They have a lot of work," Zorzi said. "A lot of evidence gets sent to them. These things take time."

Police are still investigating whether Edwards was involved in any other burglaries, Zorzi said.

"We are still investigating whether his prints show up in any others," he said.

Although it took time to solve the crime, Zorzi said, it shows that police are actively working on these cases and they can eventually be solved.

"The message is we continue to investigate these and look for patterns," he said.
