Ivy Tech offers new courses
GARY | Ivy Tech Community College Northwest's School of Business is beginning the new school year with a lot to talk about.
Starting this fall the Gary campus will offer a Grant Writing class from 9 to 11:45 a.m. Saturdays. This course will focus on methods of identifying corporate and private foundation funding prospects and applying for grants from these funders. Students will also conduct research on foundations and corporations using the internet and printed materials. In addition, students will polish their written communication skills while crafting letters of inquiry, grant proposals, cover letters and stewardship letters.
Those registering for the class must have access to a 501©3 nonprofit organization, as an employee or volunteer, that they can use as a topic for class discussions and written assignments.
Also new to business is the Crisis Management class offered from 6 to 8:45 p.m. Fridays at the Gary campus. It will explore how to manage business criseshow to avoid them and what managers can learn from the experience. Students will analyze how crises occur and develop, evaluate the role of action plans and awareness in crisis management and effectively resolve the crisis, to name a few. In addition, emergency preparedness in the workplace will also be covered to help students gain awareness in what to do in the event of a public emergency.
Continuing Education for Real Estate Licensees will be offered on Friday mornings in September. The four sessions will be held from 8 to 11:50 a.m. Sept. 5, 12, 19 and 26 and will involve the mandatory and elective classes necessary for license renewal. Regular tuition is $135 and Senior Scholars tuition is $40.
