SENIOR ART CLASS | Crown Point
Crown Point Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Prismacolor art class perfect for beginning artists. Senior citizens are invited to begin from 10 a.m. to noon any Wednesday at the parks office, 1313 E. North St. A curriculum is set up for all skill sets and artists can progress at their own pace. Travel The World Without Leaving Home for a video tour of Glacier Bay in Alaska at 2 p.m. Nov. 25 at the Lake County Public Library's Cedar Lake branch, 10010 W. 133rd Ave. Nestled in the heart of southeast Alaska, Glacier Bay is a wild paradise of ocean and ice. This film chronicles the lives of brown bears, bald eagles, humpback whales, and other charismatic species. Nearly all life here is ultimately tied to the salmon, and the heroic migration of these fish provides the thread that weaves together the remarkable fabric of this story. Santa Claus will make an early stop in Lowell for the annual Christmas Breakfast with Santa & Craft Boutique presented by the Zeta Chi chapter of Tri Kappa sorority. All the Santa fun takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (doors will close at 11:30) Dec. 6 in the Lowell Middle School cafeteria, 200 W. Oakley Ave., Lowell. WALK THE TRACK | Crown Point
Crown Point High School and Southlake YMCA have formed a partnership to make the CPHS field house available to community patrons from 5:30 to 6:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays through Feb. 26 for walking or running indoors during the winter months. Open to Crown Point Community School Corporation faculty, support staff and residents, there is no charge for running/walking on your own, but a release form must be signed. The YMCA will have a certified running coach available for supervision at a cost of $15 for Y members (can reside outside Crown Point school district) or $30 for nonmembers. Enter through the Wellness Center entrance (W1) on Circle Drive and see the supervisor to sign up.

Crown Point Parks Department and Pilates Center of NWI offer a six-week Pilates class for adults from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Dec. 9 to Jan. 13 at the Civic Center, 101 S. East St. Class will focus on strengthening muscles, increasing flexibility and improving posture. A more intense "Bump" Pilates class, which incorporates the use of an exercise ball and handweights, will also be offered from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Dec. 11 to Jan. 29. Grant application packets are currently available from the Crown Point Community Foundation, Inc. with an application form and guidelines for proposal evaluation. The application deadline date is Jan. 1, 2009. Grants from the Crown Point Community Foundation, Inc. Endowment Fund will be made to organizations and community projects which impact the area served by the foundation. Fields of Interest which will be considered for funding include: education, health and human services, civic affairs, preservation, conservation, arts and culture. The Crown Point Community Foundation is interested in funding projects that will improve the quality of life for citizens in the Crown Point area, according to Patricia Huber, president/executive director of the foundation.
