"God bless him, "Kerr said of her boyfriend, 29-year-old Dennis R. Williams. "He's gone and that hurts more than anything in the world. And my son's gone. But if (Williams) had not (intervened), I wouldn't be here."
Police say 40-year-old Lawrence K. Hill came to the Old Porter Road apartment, stabbed Williams and left with 2-year-old Keahn Hill. After evading police at one roadblock, Hill came across a second roadblock near Beam Street where slammed the Buick head-on killing himself and Keahn, who was on his father's lap.
The 21-year-old Kerr said her ex-boyfriend, 40-year-old Lawrence K. Hill, unexpectedly came to her apartment Tuesday morning after he talked to her on the phone and said things that made her "uneasy." Hill then came after Kerr with a knife, she said.
She believes Hill he was going to kill her.
"Basically, (Williams) stopped Lawrence from attacking me to give me time to get out of the building to call police," Kerr said. "Lawrence did kill Dennis and went back into the apartment and got my son and killed my son and himself."
Kerr said she will remember her 2-year-old son Keahn for his love of trains and his two favorite stuffed animals.
"He was so smart and so good," Kerr said of her son," she said. "He always put a smile on everybody's face."
She also praised her boyfriend, who she described as a kindhearted man who was a talented member of a rap group.
"He had such a big heart and would do anything for anybody," she said of her boyfriend. He deserves so much...He lost his life trying to save our lives."
Kerr, still trying to fathom the tragedy hours after it occurred, said she had no inkling that her ex-boyfriend was capable of the act of which he's accused. She believes he was targeting her, then went after her boyfriend when he got in the way. Then things escalated and her ex-boyfriend killed their child and himself.
"He just snapped for no reason and went on his rampage," Kerr said.
