RBA chief meets with City Council Tuesday

Dennis Rittenmeyer, president of the Regional Bus Authority, will attend a special meeting of the City Council at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the council caucus room at City Hall.

Fourth District Councilwoman Kim Poland at the council's meeting Aug. 11 had called for Rittenmeyer to appear before the council to discuss alternatives in the event the Hammond Transit System is eliminated.

Rittenmeyer said Friday he had been seeking a meeting with council President Dan Repay prior to Poland's request but the men's schedules had conflicted.

Rittenmeyer said he was looking forward to Tuesday's meeting with the council, but the clock is ticking.

"It's hard to envision what we could do on their behalf by Jan. 1," he said.

Should the council discontinue funding for next year, bus service will cease Dec. 31.
