SCHERERVILLE | The Schererville Police Commission is scheduled to meet tonight in an executive session.
The meetings usually take place in the town court, but the 6 p.m. meeting will be located at the Briar Ridge home of Police Commissioner Werner Zacharias, according to a public notice.
Executive session meetings are not open to the public. Any action that is taken needs to be done at a public meeting.
A notice about the meeting states that the purpose is to discuss a job performance evaluation of individual employees. It does not apply to a discussion of the salary, compensation or benefits of employees during a budget process.
Police Chief David Dowling's employment status has been a matter of discussion in town lately.
Democratic Town Councilmen Tom Schmitt and Rob Guetzloff confirmed June 20 that Town Council President Hal Slager, who leads the Republican-controlled council, asked Dowling to resign.
They later confirmed that Slager rescinded the request.
Slager hasn't commented on the matter, citing personnel reasons. Dowling only has confirmed that he and Slager had a conversation.
