WHITING | The young man whose lifeless body was found Saturday morning on the Lake Michigan shore near Whiting Park drowned, according to the Lake County coroner's office.

There were no visible signs of trauma to James Sanchez, 19, and results of a Monday afternoon autopsy were used to determine the cause of his death.

More information about the physical condition of Sanchez, a resident of the 1500 block of 121st Street in Whiting, when he died must await results of toxicology tests, which won't be available for at least a week, the coroner's office said.

Whiting police found Sanchez's body less then a mile from his home around 10:30 a.m. partially on the rocks, which form a breakwall along the lakeshore with water washing over it, police said.

His clothing was also found scattered nearby, according to police.

Detectives said family members told them Sanchez had had an argument with his wife and took off in a relative's car, something he has done before.

The car was found Saturday afternoon on Lakeview Avenue in Hammond, near Sanchez's home, police said.

Details regarding Sanchez's last hours remain sketchy, but detectives said his debit card was used to buy food at a nearby fast-food restaurant around 1 a.m. on Saturday.
