Auction items sought for spaghetti meal

Winfield/Jerry Ross PTO is accepting donations for its third annual spaghetti dinner and silent auction. The event will take place from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at Winfield Elementary School, with a silent auction from 5 to 8 p.m.

Gift certificates for service and products, as will as cash donations, are being accepted for the silent auction. All donors contributing $25 or more by Saturday will be listed in a program distributed at the event. Businesses interested in making a donation should contact Shaun Dunn at (219) 226-9677.

The spaghetti dinner includes a garden salad, bread sticks and spaghetti served with meat sauce and Italian sausage. Dessert and beverages are also included.

All proceeds will support Winfield/Jerry Ross PTO programs. Last year's event raised more than $15,000.

Tickets will be sold in advance for $8 per adult and $5 per child 3 to 12. Last year, tickets sold out in advance. For more information, call (219) 310-8318.

Trick or treat tonight

Tonight's trick or treat times for all those ghosts and goblins in Winfield and for Lakes of the Four Seasons is from 5 to 7 p.m. Motorists are urged to be careful when driving, since many youngsters will be 'haunting' the neighborhoods.

House and garden trip

Lakes of the Four Seasons House & Garden Club will be sponsoring a bus trip to Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg Ill on Nov. 24. Tickets are $25 and nonrefundable, and are payable at the time of registration.

The bus will leave the lower level of the LOFS clubhouse parking lot at 8 a.m. and will return at approximately 5 p.m. If interested, call Kathy Halterman at (219) 988-2985 or Barb Wood at (219) 988-4812.

Fish fry is awesome

Journeymen of Church of the Four Seasons United Methodist will host its popular Awesome Fish Fry from 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at the church, 9100 E. 109th Ave. in Winfield.

The meal will include fried Alaskan pollock, tater tots, seasoned green beans, cole slaw, apple sauce, coffee and lemonade, along with a dessert.

Tickets are $9 for adults, $6 for children 5 to 12 and free for younger children.

Permits inch up

Building permits issued for the month of September were up slightly from the previous month at 5. Doubletree West received 3, Doubletree Lake Estates received 1 and Stonegate got 1. Last year in September, 3 permits were issued..

As for pre-existing homes in the area, sales were up from last year. Twenty sales were recorded in September, compared to 15 last year. The total estimated construction cost for single-family and attached single-family homes is $1,078,063.00.

Total permit fees were $17,694,00. The square footage of the dwellings range from 1,589 up to 2,932. Accessory structures and miscellaneous construction cost estimates total $169,373.00, and permit fees are $5,180.20. These permits are for pools, decks, garages, sheds, signage and electrical.
