HOBART | A rash of thefts from vehicles Monday has Hobart police urging residents to lock their vehicles and not keep their valuables inside.
Hobart police Lt. Leo Finnerty said the thefts took place at several locations, leading him to think most of the incidents aren't related.
"They're all over," Finnerty said. "I don't think they're connected."
Finnerty said in many of the thefts, car radios were stolen from the vehicles.
A radio was stolen Monday from a 1999 Chevrolet Beretta parked outside Westfield Southlake mall. In another incident, a radio was stolen from a 1995 Oldsmobile in the 100 block of Kelly Street, Finnerty said, and suspects also threw eggs at the car.
"It was a nice touch," Finnerty said.
A car radio also was stolen from a 1999 GMC van located in the 500 block of Ridgelawn Drive. Finnerty said the theft is more than likely related to another theft in the same block where about 75 compact discs were stolen from a 2003 Ford Taurus.
Both thefts occurred about 9:30 a.m. Monday.
In another incident, a victim had a purse stolen from her 1995 Chevrolet Corsica about 3 p.m. Monday while she was at the Marathon gas station in the 400 block of Main Street, Finnerty said.
He said the purse was stolen while the victim was in the station.
