MUNSTER | Members of the Munster High School speech and debate team will sell tickets this weekend for their upcoming homecoming chicken barbecue.

They will be going door-to-door from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets can also be purchased from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Jewel-Osco, 716 Ridge Road.

The dinner will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at the high school, prior to the Munster vs. Morton football game. Dinner tickets are $8.50 for adults, $7.50 for seniors and $4.50 for children. Carry-outs will be available. There will be no tickets sold at the door.

The barbecue is the speech and debate team's main fundraiser. Proceeds will be used to purchase performance and research materials and help with expenses for tournaments.

In 2008, Munster won all three district tournaments qualifying nine students for the national tournament in Las Vegas. During that tournament, Munster received the Bruno Jacobs Award, presented annually to the school whose individual students have accumulated the most points. Munster is one of three schools to have won the award twice.
