Donations are needed to help move a historic tower from East Chicago to a museum.
The Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad donated one of its last two remaining interlocking towers in Lake County to the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum in North Judson.
The interlocking tower, named Grasselli, is just west of Kennedy Avenue. It was decommissioned as an active tower toward the end of last year, according to a news release.
Grasselli Tower, as well as many other towers, have been replaced because of modern technology and computer dispatching of railroad movements from remote locations.
Thus far, $35,000 has been raised for the tower's move. The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum has until June 1 to move the tower.
