GARY | A 17-year-old was found shot to death in Gary early Wednesday morning.

Clayton Bohanon Jr. of the 300 block of Rutledge Street was found shot to death in the 100 block of Clark Street at 12:30 a.m., according to a spokeswoman for the Lake County coroner's office. The death was ruled a homicide.

Gary police responded at midnight to reports of a shooting on Clark Street and found Bohanon in the passenger seat of a 1988 blue four-door Delta, Gary Cmdr. Samuel Roberts said.

Bohanon suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head, and was holding a revolver when police found him, Roberts said. Police found several shell casings around the car.

Roberts said he did not know who owned the car in which Bohanon was found.

Investigators have established leads in the case, and witnesses told police that they saw a male suspect walk away from the area of the car, Roberts said.

Roberts said he believed the slain teen was the son of a Gary man with the same name shot to death in 2003 over a $25 debt.

In June 2003, Clayton Bohanon, 38, was shot to death in Gary over a $25 bet in the city's Ambridge neighborhood. His 31-year-old girlfriend was also injured in the shooting.

William McFerson Jr. of Gary was convicted of murder, attempted murder and battery in connection with the shooting death.
