VALPARAISO | A former teacher's aide, who pleaded guilty to reduced charges stemming from having sex with two male students, will not go to jail or register as a sex offender for her crimes.
Amber Marshall, 25, of Hebron, was sentenced Monday by Porter Superior Judge Roger Bradford to nearly six years on formal probation, day reporting and will undergo sex offender treatment if needed. She is forbidden from having further contact with the two victims.
Porter County Deputy Prosecutor Cheryl Polarek has said Marshall has undergone two evaluations and both determined she poses no threat of committing further sex crimes.
Polarek said Marshall went directly from being a student at Hebron High School to a teacher's aide.
"She never left the social scene of the high school," Polarek said.
Marshall, who was hired and employed by the Porter County Education Interlocal, was arrested June 10, 2005, on charges of sexual relations with two of the students in her learning-disabled class.
Marshall pleaded guilty to two Class D felony counts of sexual misconduct with a minor. She was originally charged with four B felony and two C felony counts.
Marshall faces additional charges in Lake County stemming from the same case.
