SCHNEIDER | Local leaders say a proposal to provide sanitary sewage service and water to Sumava Resorts residents is dead following exorbitant cost estimates.
Schneider Town Council President Richard Wright said he was surprised by the figures presented last week to the Kankakee River Basin Commission by Robinson Engineering of South Holland.
Jim Zarnek, of Robinson Engineering, recommended a vacuum sewer system estimated to cost $6.3 million to construct. The more traditional gravity system would have cost about $7.8 million, he said.
"We would presume that half of the money would come from the state, but that's still a lot of money," Wright said. "I don't think it's feasible."
