Flu shots | South Holland

Senior flu shots are available from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 29 at Thornton Township Hall, 333 E. 162nd St. Shots are free for those with Medicare Part B. It's $22 for those with an HMO. Shots will be administered to those 65 and older and to those who are chronically ill. No pneumonia shots will be given this year.

Writer's group | Lansing

The Writer's Special Interest Group will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 1 in the Community Room at Lansing Public Library, 2750 Indiana Ave. For experienced writers and beginners, the Writer's Group can offer support and advice. Share and receive constructive criticism at monthly meetings. Special guest speakers will be announced. The group is for ages 18 and older.

FOCUS ON LANDSCAPES | Munster

Art enthusiasts are invited to attend South Shore Arts Art in Focus meeting for a video and discussion on "John Constable, landscape artist." It will be held from 10 a.m. to noon today in the Bachman Gallery at the Center for Visual & Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Road.

WILD WEST FALL FEST | Crown Point

Round up family, friends, and neighbors and stampede over to the Wild West Fall Fest from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31 at Town & Country Christian Church, 7037 E. 117th Ave. There will be fun for all ages including a huge cardboard maze, crazy games, an old 'jail,' and plenty of candy. Plenty of soup, chili, and all kinds of eats at the chuck wagon stand. Family activities will run from 6 to 8 followed by a teen party starting at 8. Costumes are welcome (no scary ones, please), but are not required. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.

SPAGHETTI DINNER | Highland

Share Our Dreams, a dinner dance and gala, is from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Center for Visual & Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Road. It's a benefit of the Share Foundation With the Handicapped, which serves the residential, vocational, spiritual and social needs of other abled adults. The event will include cocktails, dining, dancing to music by the Tom Milo Big Band and both silent and live auctions.

Crown Point Lions Club will host its 36th annual Fall Bingo Night at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 30 in the 4-H Building at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 889 S. Court St. Doors open at 5:30 for this smoke-free event. Admission is $5 and one extra card will be available for those who bring eyeglasses or hearing aids to donate. Prizes will be turkeys. Door prizes will be awarded and refreshments will be available. Tickets are available from Lions members, at Ron & Sons on South Main Street and at the door.

HARVEST PARTY | Dyer

Children age 3 through fifth grade are invited to a Harvest Party from 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 1 on the grounds of NewHope Community Church, 14864 101st Ave., just east of Sheffield Avenue. Activities will include pony and hay rides, a moon jump, a cake walk from 4:30 to 5:30, crafts, games and prizes, and food, ending with a bonfire. Cost is $3 per child or $10 per family.
