CROWN POINT | Lake County Police Chief Marco Kuyachich is instituting a new program requiring assistance from the public.

"Some sex offenders have not registered and we do not know where they live," Kuyachich said. "In order to file charges against them, we must identify their residence."

To that end, the police department is enlisting the help of the public. It is asking the citizens to call its sex offender registry section at (219) 755-3321 if they know the location of those individuals.

Sex offenders are required to register every 90 days or annually, depending on the crime. If a registered sex offender moves, he or she must re-register within 72 hours. Complete information on sex offenders, the law and frequently asked questions may be found on the Web site at lakecountysheriff.com or www.indianasheriffs.org.

The county police will provide one picture a week with the individual's name and last known address and alias.

This week's individual is Michael Steve Boguskie, whose last known address was 7301 W. 128th Lane in Cedar Lake.

"We have always had an impressive response when we have asked the public for their assistance and we are depending on them again," Kuyachich said.
