buy this photo Maggie is available for adoption at Beecher Veterinary Clinic.

Join me starting at 5 p.m. on Sunday at Balmoral Race Track, 26435 S. Dixie Hwy. in Crete for a South Suburban Humane Society off site pet adoption. My friends Steve and Pat Pearson will be there with many dogs and cats in need of loving homes. They will have a booth set up on the first floor about 200 feet from the entrance.

* Looking for a cool place to see some burnouts this weekend? Stop by the sixth annual South Side Cruisers Car Fest from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at Bloom High School, 101 W.10th St. in Chicago Heights. It's part of Chicago Heights' three-day weekend Summer Fest. Watch competitors try to beat the '07 Burnout Champ "Cobra Dude" Harvey Walden III and his awesome Cobra. There will also be a carnival, food, beer, music and dancing. There will be fireworks on Sunday.

* David Nardi, of Steger, is 13 and needs a kidney transplant. A fundraiser is from 6 p.m. to midnight Sept. 13 at the Steger VFW Post 8283, 33rd and Chicago Road. There will be plenty of bands, food and raffles with big prizes such as a big screen TV and a certificate for a foursome to golf at Cardinal Creek in Beecher.

So keep that date open for some good fun and entertainment. Oh, did I mention my favorite band Unforgiven will be performing?

* Bring the family or a friend at 8 p.m. Sept. 5 to Veterans Park, 35th and Hopkins in Steger, for a free movie in the park. Don't forget a blanket and some chairs so you can relax and enjoy an animated film about a bee.

First United Bank is giving away free popcorn.

* Interested in a free ear of sweet corn? All you have to do is show up between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday at Most Feed & Garden, 1742 Dixie Highway in Crete and ask for one.

If you would like more, there will be plenty available for purchase at Bultema's annual corn roast. There will also be a bounce house just for kids.

* Looking for a special pet for your kids? How about Maggie? She is a 2-year-old spayed female lab/beagle mix who is just as sweet as can be. She loves kids and is very friendly. She is available at Beecher Veterinary Clinic.
