Merrillville Community School Corporation will hold a special kindergarten registration from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 3 at Iddings Elementary School, 7249 Van Buren St. Parents of kindergarten-age students may enroll their child in either full- or half-day kindergarten in the elementary school they will be attending this fall. CHOICES Natural Birth and Parenting Network is sponsoring an informational seminar, "Educate Before You Vaccinate" from 6:30 to 9 p.m. June 4 at the Paragon Restaurant Banquet Center, 1701 E. 37th Ave. A guest speaker will discus the pros and cons of vaccinations, the impact of vaccines on a child's immune system and the concerns about the safety of vaccines. SCAVENGER HUNT | Morocco
Friends of Jasper Newton ABATE will hold a Scavenger Hunt for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation on June 7 starting at the Morocco Fire Station, 409 S. Polk St. Gates open at 9 a.m., sign in is from 9 to 10, and last bike out is at 10. Lunch will be provided and ride ends at 5 p.m. at Roselawn American Legion Post 238 on Ind. 10 with music, food, field events and awards. Cost is $5 per bike for the hunt and $10 per person or $15 per couple for party and food, which is also open to the public.

VOLUNTEER AT CAMP | Hobart
Volunteers will be conducting a Memory Book/Scrapbook Project with Hobart Preschool Inclusion Summer Campers at 9 a.m. June 12, and 20 volunteers are needed to work with campers. Camp will run for two weeks, June 2 through 13, at the Hobart Family YMCA, 601 W. 40th Place, and is open to children with and without disabilities. BENEFIT DINNER | Crown Point
A Spaghetti Dinner and Basket Raffle will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. June 7 at Cross of Christ Church, 109th Avenue and County Line Road, to raise funds for Kathy Ellingsen Furgye. Dinner tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for children ages 4 to 11, and free for children 3 and younger. Carry-outs will be available. Menu will include spaghetti, tossed salad, Italian bread and butter and dessert. Raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. There are baskets for all age groups and there will also be 50/50 raffles and a bake sale. Tickets may be purchased at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Fagen Pharmacy or at the door. Kathy Ellingsen Furgye, 27, was diagnosed with lymphoma last July and recently completed nine months of chemotherapy and radiation at Northwestern University in downtown Chicago. She grew up in Lakes of the Four Seasons, where three generations of the Ellingsens presently reside, and graduated from Crown Point High School in 1999.

STRIKE OUT LUPUS | Gary
The Lupus Foundation of America, Indiana chapter, presents a Strike Out Lupus RailCats event June 7 at The Steel Yard. This fundraising event has served as a social event and has raised awareness throughout the Northwest Indiana community. Last year, nearly 800 tickets were sold, and $16,000 was raised.

Griffith Lions Club holds its annual White Cane Day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 7. Lions members will collect donations for the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired at Walgreens on 45th Avenue, Stracks, Griffith Savings Bank and the Griffith Post Office. Indiana Sports Charities will host its 19th Annual Celebrity Golf outing at 10 a.m. June 5 at Briar Ridge Country Club, 123 Country Club Drive. Ron Kittle, Chicago White Sox 1983 American League Rookie of the Year and chairman of Indiana Sports Charities, has invited his friends to join him for a day of golf, camaraderie and great food, all in the name of raising money for cancer research and education. Beneficiaries include The University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Children's Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony's Medical Center and The Munster Education Foundation. Since 1989, nearly $2 million has been raised.

RELAY FOR LIFE | Crown Point
The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of South Lake County will be held overnight June 20-21 at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 889 S. Court St., to acknowledge the fact that cancer never sleeps. Proceeds will fund research to find a cure for cancer, advocate against cancer and support services for patients with cancer and their families in Northwest Indiana.
