A Hammond woman was pulled from Lake Michigan near Evanston's Lee Street Beach just before midnight Saturday, Evanston police said in a news release Monday.

Heather Sue Muffett and an Illinois man were struggling with waves when police pulled her back with rescue equipment, police said.

Both swimmers were cited for swimming at a closed beach, police said.

The pair were treated by paramedics after the rescue. One police officer was treated and released after he swallowed a lot of lake water, police said.
