Lake County stands to lose an average of $7,506 annually if the state Legislature enacts a proposed law requiring applicants for marriage licenses to file a five-day declaration, according to figures supplied by Walter Mybeck, deputy in the clerk's office.

An Inland Steel Co. foreman from East Chicago was fatally injured Saturday in East Chicago when he was struck by a car during the early shift change hours. Steve Chekich, a rigger foreman at Inland who would have retired next May, was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Catherine Hospital.
Dr. Leonard Green is new chief of staff at Porter Memorial Hospital said Administrator Arthur Malasto. Green succeeds Dr. Tom Dittmer as head of the hospital's medical staff. Dr. Martin J. O'Neil was named vice chief of staff and Dr. Robert Lee, of DeMotte, secretary.

Beecher veterinarian Daniel McKay was described as a man with a "borderline" mental disorder who became psychotic upon seeing his deformed newborn son. It is believed that McKay was temporarily insane at the time of the June 27, 1983, killing.
