Carbon credits for farmers to be explained

Purdue University Extension will sponsor a carbon sequestration information meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Hebron High School.

Chad Martin, cropland soils aggregation specialist with AgraGate Climate Credits Corp., will discuss revenue opportunities of the emerging carbon credits market.

Farmers with no-till or strip-tillage practices, or those with new grass plantings since 1999, are eligible to participate. Programs also exist for forestry and riparian buffer strips and agriculture methane.

VALPARAISO

Governor candidate to speak at law school

Indiana gubernatorial candidate Jill Long Thompson will speak at 5 p.m. March 20 at Valparaiso University's School of Law.

The address will be in Benson Lecture Hall at Wesemann Hall, 656 S. Greenwich St. A reception will follow the address.

Thompson's appearance, which is open to the public, is sponsored by the VU School of Law Democrats. For information, contact jsheetz@valpo.edu.

A VU graduate, Thompson served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1989 to 1995 and as U.S. undersecretary of agriculture from 1995 to 2001. She earned her bachelor's degree in business at VU and served as an assistant professor in VU's College of Business Administration before being elected to Congress.

WESTVILLE

Political scientists to meet March 28 at PNC

Purdue University North Central will host the Indiana Political Science Association annual meeting on March 28. The meeting is open to educators, students and residents interested in politics and the political system.

The meeting will include panels on American politics, comparative politics, international relations, public policy and public administration and political theory.

The keynote address will be presented by Monica Tetzlaff of Indiana University South Bend.

The fee for faculty IPSA membership and conference registration is $20. Student IPSA membership and conference registration is $5. The luncheon is $15.
