Cops arrest M'ville man, Chicago woman in bust

Portage police on Sunday morning arrested a woman and a man in a prostitution bust outside America's Best Value Inn and Suites.

The woman, Angel D. Gilchrist, 22, of Chicago, was arrested on charges of prostitution, public indecency and possession of a controlled substance.

The man, Frantione L. Greenwood, 26, of Merrillville, was arrested on charges of patronizing a prostitute and public indecency. Police made the arrests at 2 a.m. Sunday.

Police said the acted on a complaint and arrived to find the two with their vehicles parked side by side. Police said the two were having sex in the back seat of one of the vehicles. Police said they had previously been at a strip club.

Police say man killed in crash intoxicated

Porter County police on Monday said that the man who caused a head-on crash one month ago that resulted in his own death was extremely intoxicated at the time of the crash.

Police said blood testing revealed that Joseph Cusson, 27, of Lake Station, had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.41, which is five times the standard of intoxication in Indiana.

Police said he crossed the center line and caused a crash Nov. 5 on County Road 900 North, near County Road 200 West in Porter County. The woman whose car he struck was seriously injured in the crash.

Jail reports drunken driving has doubled

Drunken driving arrests doubled over the long Thanksgiving weekend.

Porter County Jail records show 24 people were arrested on drunken driving charges, which is about twice as many as police arrest during a similar period that doesn't fall on a holiday weekend. Police had extra patrols on the roadways because Thanksgiving has become one of the biggest drinking and driving holidays.

Man reports break-in; he, suspect arrested

A Valparaiso man who called police Wednesday night to report someone was trying to break into his apartment was arrested after he was found to possess marijuana, police said. The man trying to break in also was arrested, police said.

The apartment resident, Charles Myers Jr., 24, of 258 Greenwich St., Apt. 6, was arrested on possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia charges.

The man accused of trying to break in, Brian Cecconi, 33, of 258 Greenwich St., Apt. 1, was found to live in another apartment in the building. Police said it appeared he didn't know exactly where he lived because he was intoxicated. He was arrested on public intoxication and disorderly conduct charges.

PORTAGE

Cops say pills, gun were in vehicle during stop

Portage police said they arrested three people after a traffic stop in which ecstasy pills and a gun were confiscated.

The traffic stop occurred on westbound Interstate 94 at Ind. 249 at 3:16 a.m. Saturday.

Lisa M. Gillen, 25, of Chicago, was arrested on a drunken driving charge. Suzanne M. Terry, 19, who has listed addresses in Whiting and Hammond, was arrested on charges of underage drinking, possession of a pistol without a permit and possession of ecstasy. Lisa J. Puente, 18, of East Chicago, was arrested on underage drinking and weapon possession charges.

Burglary. Pro Nails, 709 Plaza Drive, reported $200 cash and a laptop computer stolen from the business during a burglary.

Suspicious circumstances. South 5th Street resident Debora Ruano reported someone may have stolen some of her mail or attempted to tamper with it.

Vandalism. South Park Drive resident David Quinn reported someone vandalized his mailbox.
