American Legion Post 170, 798 Wabash, will have a Halloween costume party beginning at 8 p.m. Nov. 1. Entertainment will be provided by the band Delta Straight. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes. The public is invited. There is no cover charge.

PUMPKIN CARVING CONTEST | Chesterton
A community-wide pumpkin carving contest, created and sponsored by Kelly of The Red Cup Cafe & Deli, along with the Three Days and Nights of Halloween Committee of the Duneland Business Initiative Group will take place Oct. 31. Bring already-carved pumpkins to the gazebo at Thomas Centennial Park between 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. for judging. the top three winners will be announced at 8 p.m. First place winner receives a $100 savings bond, second place receives a $75 savings bond. and third place receives a $50 savings bond from Horizon Bank. All carved pumpkin entries will receive free cookie coupons from the Red Cub.

SCAVENGER HUNT | Chesterton
The Three Days and Nights of Halloween Scavenger Hunt begins with your first clue at Tiger Lily Kids, 206 S. Calumet in downtown Chesterton on Oct. 29 through Oct. 31. Tiger Lily Kids hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
At Tiger Lily Kids, you will receive your official Trick or Treat Scavenger Hunt bag, complete with a map and locations of additional participating shops and businesses. Clues to finding hidden tokens will be provided by each spooktacular Duneland merchant listed on the map. Only one token from each store will be accepted in exchange for treats. Bring the tokens from your scavenger hunting to the Gazeboo at Thomas Centennial Park in downtown Chesterton between 3:30 and 8 p.m. on Oct. 31 for treats.

HAUNTED HOUSE | Hebron
Hebron National Junior Honor Society is sponsoring its annual Haunted House Oct. 30 and 31. Hours are 4:30 to 6 p.m. for ages 9 and younger and 7:30 to 10:30 for ages 10 and older. Hours for Oct. 31 are 7:30 to 10 p.m. Admission is $3 for ages 10 and older and $1 for ages 9 and younger. All proceeds go towards helping Hebron families in need during the winter holidays.

HAUNTED TRAIL RIDE | Porter County
ABATE of Indiana sponsors a Phantom of the Pines Haunted Trail Ride from 7 to 11 p.m. Oct. 31 and 7 to midnight Nov. 1 at Pines Ski Lodge, 684 Meridian Road. Cost is $5; children younger than 6 are free with an adult. There also is a bake sale, food and drinks.

TERROR TOWN | Chesterton
Terror Town of Chesterton - Nightmare on Brown Avenue event begins at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at 100 Brown Ave. This is an indoor festival with something for everyone. Pass through the haunted halls of Madness Mansion, games, prizes, fortune telling and face painting at the Creepy Carnival and try the ghoulish gourmet treats. There will be a lights on version through the haunted house from 3:30 to 5 p.m. with a lights off version from 6 to 10 p.m. There also will be a costume contest each night at 5:30 p.m.; win a prize. There is free parking. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for ages 10 and younger. Proceeds from the event benefit the Duneland Extreme Sport's Park and the Duneland Boys & Girls Club.

A Halloween family night is planned for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at the South Haven Public Library. TRICKS OR TREATS | Merrillville
Merrillville Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring its second annual Town Hall Trick-or-Treating activity from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 31 at 7820 Broadway. Children 5 and younger can visit decorated town offices in costume to receive treats from costumed staff. Departments not located in the town hall can set up in the south hallway to participate.

TRUNK OR TREAT | Winfield
Bring the kids to "Trunk or Treat" from 4 to 6:30 p.m. today at Church of the Four Seasons, 9100 E. 109th Ave., across from the Lakes of the Four Seasons entrance. There will be fun for the whole family with a bonfire, hot dogs, s'mores, hay rides and a children's costume parade and contest (no scary costumes please) Trunk or Treat, with children trick-or-treating from the trunk of cars instead of walking through the neighborhoods. Adults are welcome to bring treats and distribute them to the youngsters from their cars.

Trunk or Treat | Hobart
Jubilee Worship Center will host a Trunk or Treat event from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31 at the center, 415 N. Hobart Road. Children come through the line of decorated cars to receive lots of candy. There will be a bonfire with hot dogs and s'mores. Hot chocolate and drinks are also served.

Halloween show | Whiting
"SPELLBOUND! The Halloween Show II" is a Halloween musical set to popular music. It features George Rogers Clark students in full makeup and costumes dancing to songs like "Thriller" and "Beat It." Children and students are encouraged to come dressed in Halloween costumes and will receive a discount price. All children will receive a Halloween goodie bag after the show. Performances are at 6 p.m. Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 and 2 p.m. Nov. 2 in the George Rogers Clark Auditorium, 1921 Davis Ave. Ticket prices are $3 for students and senior citizens and $6 for adults.
