Driver, two others hurt when car rolled over
A 25-year-old Gary man died after he was flung from a car in a rollover wreck early Sunday on the Borman Expressway in Gary, authorities said.
Teon Harris died after the one-car crash at 12:23 a.m. in the westbound lanes near the Burr Street exit, according to a news release from Sgt. Ann Wojas, of the Indiana State Police.
Harris, of the 2100 block of West 49th Avenue, was pronounced dead at 2:57 a.m. in the emergency room of the Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus in Gary, said a spokesman for the Lake County coroner's office.
Witnesses said a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Tamikka Lucius, 28, of Gary, swerved across three lanes toward the Burr Street exit, Wojas said. The car tipped and rolled at least twice.
Harris was not wearing a seat belt, Wojas said.
Lucius was taken to the Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus with chest pains, Wojas said.
Two passengers -- Steven Thomas, 31, and Enora Royal, both of Hammond -- also were taken to Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus, Wojas said. Hospital employees did not offer condition reports on the victims Sunday.
Lucius was cited for driving too fast to avoid a collision and driving with no valid license in her possession, Wojas said.
