SANTA BREAKFAST | Cedar Lake

Cedar Lake Kiwanis, Hanover Central Key Club and Cedar Lake Parks Department will host Breakfast with Santa from 8 to 11 a.m. Dec. 6 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 13039 U.S. 41. Enjoy breakfast, make a craft and visit Santa Claus. Tickets at the door are $5 for adults and $3 for children 4 to 10; younger children attend free. A bake sale will be held by the Hanover Builders Club.

SANTA & STORIES | Shelby, Schneider & Lowell

Children can bring their Christmas lists and parents can bring the cameras for the annual Santa Claus Storytime at the Lowell Public Library and its branches. Santa will read stories at 10 a.m. Dec. 6 at the Shelby Branch Library, 23321 Shelby Road, and at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Schneider Branch Library, 24004 Parrish Ave. Santa will read stories at 10 a.m. Dec. 13 at the Lowell Public Library, 1505 E. Commercial Ave. Santa will talk to each child individually and give each child a treat bag and an autographed coloring sheet of Santa and his reindeers.

Santa's visit is sponsored by the Friends of the Lowell Public Library and arranged by Friends' President Brian Mathias.

ST. NICK AT NOON | Crown Point

Greater Crown Point Chamber of Commerce will host a new event, St. Nick at Noon, from noon to 2:30 p.m. Dec. 6 in the Maki Ballroom at the Old Lake County Courthouse on the square. Cost is $4 for a lunch that includes chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese or potato chips, fruit cup, beverage and cookies. Children one year and younger attend free. There will be visits with Santa and his helpers, door prizes, storytelling, caroling and more. Photos will cost $5 each.

CHOCOLATE GALORE | Cedar Lake

Teens 12 to 17 will make a variety of chocolate candy for themselves and for library holiday programs at 1 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Lake County Public Library's Cedar Lake branch, 10010 W. 133rd Ave. Create, eat, have fun, and earn volunteer time.

TEEN NIGHT | Crown Point

Teen Night will be held from 7:15 to 10 p.m. Dec. 5 and 19 at Southlake YMCA, 1450 S. Court St., for sixth- seventh- and eighth graders. Play basketball, work out, swim, play pool, ping pong and video games. Cost is $5 for members and $8 for nonmembers.

MADRIGAL DINNER | Illinois

Erin Stinson of Crown Point will perform in the 53rd Annual Madrigal Dinners, opening tonight at the Illinois State University Alumni Center. Illinois State University's School of Music will present the Holiday Madrigal Celebration from Dec. 3 to 13 in the ballroom of the Alumni Center on North Main Street in Normal. This year's attendees will enjoy an Italian feast along with the program. Tickets for the dinner and performance are $40 for the general public and $30 for students. SLEDDING HILLS | Lake County

Sledding hills will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through March 31 (when adequate snow cover allows) at Oak Ridge Prairie County Park, 301 S. Colfax St., Griffith, and Lemon Lake County Park, 6322 W. 133rd Ave., Crown Point. Gate fee when gatekeeper is on duty.

Bring your own tube or plastic sled. No metal or wood sleds with runners and no ski boards allowed. Call the park sites for updates on the snow conditions.
