Hobart cops say teen caught driving Chevy
HOBART | A Hobart 13-year-old's predawn joy ride in a borrowed car was short-lived when a police officer pulled him over, police said Thursday.
The teen, who was initially spotted driving left of center, was stopped by police officer Chris Ciesielski at 2:45 a.m. Thursday after the boy stopped at 5th and Center streets where there is no stop sign, Lt. Steve Houck said.
The teen told the police officer he had grabbed the keys out of the purse of a friend's grandmother who was sleeping at the time.
The teen was not injured during the incident and the Chevrolet Lumina he was driving was not damaged, Houck said.
The driver of the car did not press charges and the teen was turned over to his parents following the incident.
The teen still faces the possibility of being charged with driving without a driver's license, Houck said.
