MUNSTER | The School Town of Munster has received more than $83,700 in donations.

The Community Hospital made a donation of $73,135 to assist the district with the paving of the Munster High School south parking lot this past summer. The hospital uses a portion of the lot for employee parking.

"The hospital has been a great partner with us," said Superintendent William Pfister. "They are good neighbors."

The funds will offset the total amount of the project, which was $444,500 and included the north and south parking lots. The cost of the south parking lot alone was $250,000.

The estate of James Krajewski donated $10,578 to the Munster High School speech and debate program. Krajewski, a former Lake Superior Court judge, was 50 when he died a year ago after a brief illness. He is an alum of Munster High School.

Rich Sopko, assistant superintendent, said Krajewski always reiterated to the school coaches that his training on the speech team was a formidable part of his success in his career.

"He was a brilliant man who cared deeply for children," said School Board member Mary Yorke. "Whenever the speech and debate (team) needed help he did it."
