VALPARAISO | A Valparaiso man told police he didn't believe his daughter last year when she said another family member molested her.
The father, knowing his daughter had just learned about inappropriate touches in school, believed she took what she learned in school and created a story. But now, a year later, the man's other daughter has reported she was recently molested by the same relative.
The father reported the incidents last week and an investigation led to the arrest Monday of the suspect, Anthony Welkie, 42, of the 1700 block of Dainesway in Valparaiso, on a felony child molestation charge. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
The girl who said she was molested one year ago stated Welkie touched her genitals.
The second daughter, who is 8 years old, stated Welkie performed a sex act on her which hurt her. The girl stated she tried to get away, but Welkie held her down.
Police said that incident occurred a few weeks ago at the girl's home. Police said the girl's father was home at the time, but was busy doing something else.
