ST. JOHN | Lake Central School Corp. officials are hoping to redesign the district's Web site and possibly include an online school registration feature.

"It's been articulated that our current Web site is inadequate in the areas of communication, accuracy and capabilities," Superintendent Gerald Chabot told the School Board.

"There's a lack of continuity and the need for much improvement. We are seeking to better communicate with our parents and patrons and to provide up-to-date accurate information."

The board reviewed a proposal from Schererville-based Alkon Consulting Group Inc., which would like to launch the new Web site in March.

The cost estimate is $22,800, with annual maintenance fees of $2,700, board member Margaret Clark said. It will take Alkon from 17 to 19 weeks to complete research and development, Chabot said.

The firm provides services such as software and operating system upgrades, firewall, backup, technical support, database management, server hosting, data recovery, virus protection and security audits.

The board is expected to approve a contract with a more definitive scope of work at an upcoming meeting.

Chabot said the school community would like the ability to register for school online. That component would be developed with the help of Lake Central's technical staff.
