Labor Day activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 1 at Buckley Homestead County Park, 3606 Belshaw Road, include a free visit to the history Buckley Farm with the purchase of a corn maze ticket. This year's Corn Maze theme is "Astronomy" with 30 Buckley maze fun questions. Enjoy the 10-acre Corn Maze first and then walk over to the Main House for a game of croquet. Enjoy a cold sarsaparilla for a small fee.

WOMEN'S CONNECTION | Schererville

PARK HAY RIDES | Lake County
Reservations for tractor-drawn hay rides are offered at the following Lake County park sites in September and October: Lemon Lake, Stoney Run, Oak Ridge Prairie, Deep River, and Buckley Homestead County Parks. Maximum number per ride is 25 adults (more children). Cost on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays is $75 per ride, and from Monday through Thursday it is $50 per ride.Horse-drawn hay rides at Buckley Homestead County Park, 3603 Belshaw Road in Lowell, are $100 per ride (only during daylight hours). Special Needs hay rides are available at Oak Ridge Prairie, 301 S. Colfax St., Griffith, during daylight hours. The hay wagon is able to carry people in wheelchairs. Regular prices apply. Time and day reservations are dependent upon availability of driver.

INDIA FEST | Merrillville
Experience culture and tradition at India Fest 2008 from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 7 at Indian American Cultural Center, 8605 Merrillville Road. Admission is $2; children younger than 6 attend free. Festivities include Indian dances, paintings, art, Indian cuisine, a fashion show, fashions, sarees and jewelry, a health fair, a palmist and henna (the art of hand painting).

SLAVONIA BAND | Merrillville
Croatian Sons Lodge 170 of the Croatian Fraternal Union will sponsor an evening of entertainment at 7 p.m. Sept. 4 by the Slavonia Band from Zupanja, Croatia at the Croatian Center, 8550 Taft St. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children at the door. The band, comprised of six instrumentalists and a male vocalist, has been chosen for the CFU Cultural Tour for 2008.

SEEKING TALENT | Hobart
County Line Orchard on County Line Road is looking for local performers to entertain during its Orchard Time festivities this fall. The orchard is sponsoring the event each Saturday and Sunday in September and October beginning Sept. 6, said Margo Brown, events director. Local performers will be able to showcase their talents either indoors our outdoors from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

CAR CRUISES | Crown Point
City of Crown Point hosts Car Cruises from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays through September around the Courthouse Square downtown. Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. and the public is invited to stroll the square and visit with owners while checking out the vintage and classic vehicles and listening to oldies music played at the courthouse. Some merchants stay open late and refreshments are available to purchase.

Exhibit | Whiting

Golf outing | Hammond
Calumet College of St. Joseph will hold its ninth annual Crimson Wave Golf Outing Sept. 12 at Lost Marsh Golf Course. Registration and lunch begin at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start, scramble format at noon. Dinner will be held at the Hammond Marina Clipper Room at 6, with an open bar until 7. A silent auction will be a part of the evening festivities. Golf plus lunch and dinner is $150 per person. Dinner only is $50. Hole Sponsorships are available for $125 per hole.
