Ceremony to feature tributes and somber motorcade
CROWN POINT | The City of Crown Point will host a 9-11 Memorial Service marking the seventh year since the terrorist attacks on the United States. The ceremony will be held at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 11 on the east steps of the Old Courthouse downtown.
Sept. 11, 2001, changed the nation forever when two planes crashed into the World Trade Center "Twin Towers" in New York City, killing thousands and causing both buildings to collapse within two hours, destroying two nearby buildings and damaging others. Another plane struck the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and a fourth jetliner was downed in rural Pennsylvania by the heroic actions of passengers who thwarted another presumed attack on a Washington landmark. According to www.wikipedia.com, 2,974 people perished in the attacks and another 24 are missing and presumed dead.
Mayor David Uran will open the ceremony with a commemorative proclamation, followed by a tribute from Crown Point's fire, police and emergency management departments. At 8:46 a.m., the exact time that the first plane struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center, representatives from the Crown Point Ministerial Association will lead a moment of silence. Following the moment of silence, a somber motorcade parade will pass around the square.
All are welcome to come and honor those who lost their lives that fateful day and those who families were changed forever.
