Barbecue dinner | Lansing
The T.F. South Booster Club will have its annual barbecue chicken dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 24 in the school cafeteria, 18500 Burnham Ave. It is dine in or carry out. Dinner is $8 and includes half a chicken, pasta salad, cole slaw, bun, dessert and beverage.

Pancake breakfast | Lansing
American Legion Auxiliary Edward Schultz Unit 697 will have its annual pancake breakfast on from 7 to 11 a.m. Nov. 8 at the Post, 18255 Grant St. The breakfast features buttermilk pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, fruit cocktail and syrup, plus choice of coffee, orange juice or milk. The cost is $5 for adults, $3 for ages 3 to 10, and free for those younger than 3. Auxiliary members raise funds to support veterans hospitals, local youth organizations, Children's Miracle Network and other charities. Edward Schultz Unit offers special thanks to the Copper Muggers of Lansing for their continued cooperation in preparing pancakes, and to Boy Scout Troop 276 for serving breakfast.

MAGICAL LUNCH & SHOW | Hobart
Tickets are available until Oct. 22 for A Magical Holiday presented by Epsilon Zeta Chapter of Kappa, Kappa, Kappa, on Nov. 9 at Avalon Manor, 3550 E. U.S. 30. This annual fundraiser includes a luncheon, style show, cash bar, musical entertainment, Bountiful Baskets raffles, bazaar, silent auction and $500 cash raffle. Fashions will be presented by The Disney Store and The Pink Boutique. Hobart Tri Kappa will present two $1,500 Continuing Education Scholarships to students returning to their education. Guest speaker will be Supreme Court Justice Brent Dickson, a previous Tri Kappa scholarship recipient. Gift baskets, drink specials and raffle tickets will also be available in support of Hobart Tri Kappa City Wide Giving Tree. Tickets are $30.

Historical society | Highland
The Highland Historical Society will host actor Terry Lynch at 7 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Lincoln Center, 2450 Lincoln St. The program titled Burnham's Chicago is a historical portrayal of Daniel Burnham telling the story and introducing the people and events that shaped the Windy City. It's a free program, and the public is welcome.

Voting workshop | Munster
The Illiana Collie Fanciers will present a voting workshop at its monthly meeting at 8 p.m. Oct. 24 at Munster Town Hall, 1005 Ridge Road. Judith Reynolds, professional registered Parliamentarian, will demonstrate several voting methods, including majority, plurality, and preferential voting. The presentation will be relevant to many civic and nonprofit organizations. The meeting and workshop are free and open to the public.

A new military support group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays at First Christian Church, 202 W. Pine St. It's for those with family members in the military. The group will start preparing Christmas care packages, which need to be mailed out by the end of October.

GFWC Ridgeland Federated Woman's Club will have its annual Long Grove bus trip leaving at 8 a.m. Nov. 15 from United Methodist Church, 45th and Cline avenues. Shop for the day and return at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $40, which includes a goodie bag. Mayor's Night Out | Hammond
Meet Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. during Mayor's Night Out from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 23 in the community room at Ophelia Steen Family and Health Services Center, 5927 Columbia Ave. The mayor and several department heads will answer questions in an open forum and will also be available to discuss issues and concerns one-on-one.
