SNACK AND PLAN | Cedar Lake

Members of the Teen Advisory Board, and those wishing to join, will eat, play games and plan future youth programs at 5 p.m. June 2 at the Lake County Public Library's Cedar Lake branch, 13330 Parrish Ave. Participants will earn volunteer time for attending. Register.

STORY TIME | DeMotte

Babies 6 to 24 months, with a caregiver, can attend Lap-sit Story Time from 10 to 10:30 a.m. June 5 and the first Thursday of every month at the DeMotte Library, 901 Birch St. SW. FAMILY NEEDED | Hobart

Academic Year in America Foreign Exchange Program is looking for a family interested in hosting a Russian exchange student for the 2008-09 school year. Marat is a 17-year-old junior from Russia who is hoping to enroll at River Forest High School. Marat is a Future Leaders Exchange Student, which is funded by a U.S. Grant Program, a talented artist, and plays chess, computer games and basketball. He is allergic to dogs and has been diagnosed with Myelodysplasia and uses a wheelchair, but is completely independent and can transfer himself from his wheelchair. A host family would need to would need to provide a bed, meals and a nurturing environment in a one-level home or provide his living space, including bathroom, on the main floor. A temporary wheelchair ramp would be built if stairs lead into the main entrance of the home. All adaptations to the home would be provided by AYA. STRING ART CRAFT | Wheatfield

Youths who have completed grades 4 through 11 are invited to make creative designs at a String Art Crafts program from 2 to 3 p.m. June 5 at the Wheatfield Library, 350 S. Bierma St. Held in conjunction with the Books for Bucks Summer Reading Program, all materials will be provided free. CHILD SAFETY | Crown Point

A Child Fingerprinting Session and Disney Pin Trading Discussion will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. June 7 at First Financial Bank, 11890 Broadway. Fingerprinting for parents will be courtesy of the Crown Point Police Department and pin trading will be hosted by AAA Travel. Travel counselors will share economical and interesting vacation ideas for summer and fall travel. Admission is free. Refreshments and a door prize drawing are included.

SUPER SUMMER | Hobart

Registration is being accepted for the for Super Summer Day Camp at the Hobart Family YMCA, 601 W. 40th Place. Camp begins June 9 for school-age children currently in kindergarten through grade 6. Youth who have completed sixth grade may apply for the counselor-in-training program. Applications are available at the front desk. Day camp offer a fun, safe and exciting program throughout the summer. A typical camp day includes group activities, gym time, sports, swim time, snacks, a sack lunch provided by parents, singing, gardening project, Professor Popcorn, Environmobile, games, awards, occasional field trips and special activities like mini-sport camps and art classes.

CLUB CAMP | Cedar Lake

Summer day camp will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 9 to Aug. 15, at the Cedar Lake Boys & Girls Club, 13000 Fairbanks St. Cost is $35 per week per child, or $10 per day. A variety of activities are planned.

SENIOR BASEBALL | Hobart

Hobart Little League is accepting signups for its Senior Division, accepting youths ages of 15 to 18 who reside in Hobart and are interested in playing baseball. Also welcome is anyone interested in coaching the team. Cost is $100 per player or $75 per player if they have a sibling playing in the league.

CATCH THE BUG | DeMotte

Preschoolers 2 to 5 are invited to "Catch the Reading Bug" this summer at the DeMotte Library, 901 Birch St. SW. Parents can record the titles of books read to or by their children throughout June, and weekly prizes will be awarded for every eight books read.

TEEN VOLUNTEERS | Wheatfield
