AIR FORCE | William Crew
Air Force Airman William M. Crew has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. He is the son of Lydia and Bill Crew, of Hobart, and a 2007 graduate of Hobart High School.
ARMY | Katherine Oslizlo
Army Spec. Katherine L. Oslizlo has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises. Oslizlo is the daughter of Michael Oslizlo of Portage, and sister of Michael Oslizlo of LaPorte.
The specialist graduated in 2001 from Portage High School, and received a bachelor's degree in 2005 from Ball State University, Muncie.
AIR FORCE | Ruben Lozano
Air Force Airman Ruben Lozano has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.
In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
He is the son of Laura Cleland of Porter.
Lozano graduated in 2004 from Chesterton High School and received an associate degree in 2007 from Vincennes University.
MARINE CORPS | Aaron Bauman
Marine Corps Cpl. Aaron Bauman, son of Natalie A. Rhoda of Elkhart and Thomas J. Bauman of Hobart, along with more than 6, 000 Marines and sailors of the Iwo Jima Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG), Norfolk, VA., and embarked 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., recently began a seven-month deployment to the Navy's 5th and 6th Fleet area of operations in support of Maritime Security Operations and the Global War on Terror. The Marines of the 26th MEU are adjusting to life aboard ship and recently promoted 92 Marines while underway. The MEU's Scout Sniper Platoon practiced shooting floating targets, designed to simulate small water craft, from the stern of the ship. The exercise hones the platoons ability to provide security for the ship during transit through heightened security areas.
MEUs are built around a reinforced infantry battalion, a combat service support element, a reinforced helicopter squadron and a command element.
The Iwo Jima ESG consists of the amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7); the amphibious dock landing ship USS Carter Hall (LSD 50); the amphibious transport dock ship USS San Antonio (LPD 17); the guided-missile cruiser USS Vella Gulf (CG 72); the guided-missile destroyer USS Ramage (DDG 61); all homeported at Norfolk; the guided-missile destroyer USS Roosevelt (DDG 80), homeported at Mayport, Fla.; and the fast attack submarine USS Hartford (SSN 768), homeported at Groton, Conn. Additionally, USS Ramage is the first east coast ship certified for AEGIS Ballistic Missle Defense.
Bauman is a 2005 graduate of South Haven Christian High School of Springfield, Tenn. and joined the Marine Corps in November 2005.
ARMY | Sakina Abdul-Rahim
Army National Guard Pvt. Sakina Abdul-Rahim has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises. She is the daughter of Regina Ladd of First Ave., New York, N.Y., and stepdaughter of Sherly Lowery of Calumet City, Ill. Abdul-Rahim is a 2007 graduate of Thornton Fractional North High School, Calumet City.
ARMY | Adam Bohacik
Army Pvt. Adam Bohacik has graduated from Basic Combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics. Bohacik is the son of Catherine Bohacik of Chicago, Ill. In 2006, the private graduated from the Gwendolyn Brooks College Preparatory School, Chicago.
NAVY | Bryan Ford
Navy Seaman Recruit Bryan Ford, son of Angela and Micheal Ford of Steger, Ill., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, Ford completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
Ford is a 2008 graduate of Bloom Trail High School of Chicago Heights, Ill.
