GARY | A 26-year-old Crown Point man was seriously injured Monday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash on the Borman Expressway just east of Grant Street.
Jerry Groff Jr. underwent surgery Monday at Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus after the 3:29 p.m. accident, according to Carol Caudillo, hospital spokeswoman.
Details of Groff's condition were not known, Caudillo said.
The driver of a second vehicle, Tiffanie Taylor, 21, of Hammond, was released after treatment at the hospital for abrasions and lacerations, Indiana State Police said.
A preliminary investigation indicates Taylor was driving a Chevrolet TrailBlazer east when she began to change lanes and struck the rear of a Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Groff, police said.
The impact caused Taylor's vehicle to strike the center concrete median and Groff's vehicle to hit the rear of a semi driven by Sucha Singh, 41, of Greenfield, Wis., police said. Singh was not injured.
Police said three of the expressway's five lanes were closed for about an hour as a result of the accident.
