Viewers may be able to tune in as early as October
CROWN POINT | The discussions and decisions of Crown Point's boards and commissions could be available online and on TV as early as the first week in October, the city's media relations and IT director said Tuesday.
At a May Board of Works meeting, director Adam Graper detailed his investigation of the cost and possibility of broadcasting meetings either on TV or via the Internet. He said he can request to use a cable provider's public education and government channel, and the city would need to purchase about $15,000 in new equipment.
Since then, about $10,000 in microphones, a mixer, a laptop and a video camera have been installed in the Council Chambers of City Hall. Graper said the city will spend about two weeks testing the equipment before it goes on air. Graper said some of the microphones in the room had been installed at least 30 years ago.
"We want to do it as soon as we can," Graper said, adding that the live Internet streaming will likely come before the TV broadcast.
The meetings will be shown live on TV and replayed throughout the day. In between the meeting will be a slideshow of public information and announcements, he said.
