GARY | A Gary man died Friday in what police said was a confrontation between the parents of teen girls who had fought earlier at school.
Tyrone Mobley, 42, died Friday afternoon of a gunshot wound to the chest.
Police said Mobley and Don Scott, 45, were struggling over a shotgun when the gun discharged, killing Mobley and wounding Scott in the arm.
An investigation continues and nobody has been charged in connection with the shooting, Gary Detective Jeff Hornyak said.
The girls, one 15 and one 16, argued outside of Lew Wallace High School on Friday and fought on the walk home to near 41st Avenue and Connecticut Street in the city's Glen Park neighborhood, police said.
After one of the girls ran home to get her dad, "the dads took matters into their own hands," Hornyak said.
Scott went to the Mobley home, 4150 Connecticut St., and was talking to Mobley's wife when Tyrone Mobley approached, police said.
It appears Mobley brought the shotgun to the house, Hornyak said.
Both families moved to Gary from Chicago and have a history of problems between them, Hornyak said.
Anybody with information about the shooting or events leading to it are asked to call Hornyak at (219) 881-7514.
