Super Bingo | Chicago

St. Florian will host Super Bingo beginning at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at St. Florian School Gym, 131st and Houston avenues in Chicago's Hegewisch neighborhood. Price is $25 and includes lunch buffet, beverage, dessert and set up raffle and door prizes. There's a $500 coverall.

Fish fry | Burnham

A fish fry by Poor Eli is from 4 to 8:30 tonight at Paul Price Amvets Post 43, 14032 Torrence Ave. Dinner includes cole slaw, cottage cheese, homemade potato salad, fries, bread and coffee. Choices are walleye, lake perch, shrimp, frog legs, bluegill, Cajun catfish, chicken or a combo dinner. Prices start at $8.50. Carry-outs are available. The public is welcome to attend.

Hearts tournament | Thornton

The Chicago Hearts Players League is having a hearts tournament starting at 9 a.m. Nov. 15 at South Suburban Bridge Club, 591 Williams St. The tournament includes three preliminary games, a seminfinal game and a championship game. Trophies will be awarded. Registration is $8 in advance or $13 at the door.

Writer's Group | Lansing

The Writer's Special Interest Group will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 15 in the Community Room at Lansing Public Library, 2750 Indiana Ave. For experienced writers and beginners, the Writer's Group can offer support and advice. Share and receive constructive criticism at monthly meetings. Special guest speakers will be announced. The group is for ages 18 and older.

Chick lit | Crete

The Crete Library's Children's Department welcomes girls age 10 and older and women to sign up for Chick Lit. Chick Lit will be held at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 17. The chosen book is "Sable" by Karen Hesse. The story is about a girl named Tate who is overjoyed when a scrawny mutt turns up in the yard. She persuades her parents to let her keep Sable. Refreshments will be served.

Archivist | Calumet City

Calumet City Historical Society will host Calumet area archivist and author Steve McShane who will talk about the history of the South Shore/South Bend railroad line on its centennial being celebrated this year. The program is at 2 today at the society's museum, 760 Wentworth Ave. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.

Cinderella | Lake Station

The Edison Junior/Senior High School Drama Department will perform the musical "Cinderella" at 7 p.m. tonight and Nov. 15. Ticket prices are $5 for students/seniors; $6 adults $6; and free for children 2 and younger.

Cookie sale | Munster

Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana, Munster Mints Service Unit, will be sponsoring a drive up cookie booth sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 15 in the St. Thomas More Cornerstone Center parking lot at 8635 Calumet Ave. Eight varieties of cookies will be available for sale at $4 a box.

Dutch heritage | Hammond

Celebrating Dutch Heritage through music, dance, traditional food and cultural exhibits is the focus of a program Purdue University Calumet is hosting Nov. 15. The three-hour celebration begins at 2 p.m. in Alumni Hall of the university's Student Union & Library. The group, Dutch History Live, from Holland, Mich., will perform songs, skits, a wooden shoe dance and a craft demonstration.

Additionally, the Purdue Calumet Theatre Company will perform a short drama based on readings from "The Diary of Anne Frank." The Theatre Company also will perform "The Diary of Callie" about Dutch-Americans sheltering escaped slaves in pre-Emancipation America. Authentic Dutch cuisine will be catered by Van Til's Delicatessen and Almira's Bakery. Several local Dutch-American businesses will have displays. Admission is free.

March for Life | Northwest Indiana

A group will leave at 6 p.m. Jan. 20 from St. Mary Church, 525 N. Broad St. in Griffith, for a trip to Washington, D.C., as part of March for Life. The group will attend the National Prayer Vigil for Life Jan. 21 and a rally Jan. 22. The day concludes with March for Life on the grounds of Washington landmarks. Deadline for reservations is Dec. 1. Trip costs $300 per person, which includes transportation and one night lodging.
