LAPORTE | A LaPorte woman early Friday screamed when she saw a strange man on her front porch wielding a knife.

According to LaPorte police, the woman about 4 a.m. was sitting on her living room couch in the 400 block of John Street.

She heard the door to her front porch open.

The woman got up and looked out saw a man holding a knife mumbling something about needing money, police said.

She screamed and ran to the kitchen where she yelled for her husband, who raced down the stairs.

He took off after the armed man who fled, police said.

Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

The man with the knife was described as Hispanic, tall and skinny, wearing a gray shirt.
