A 25-year-old Cedar Lake man died after a vehicle hit his bicycle Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

Thomas Kowalik was pronounced dead at 5:56 p.m. Sunday at St. Anthony Medical Center in Crown Point after the crash 30 minutes earlier near his home in the 12600 block of Parrish Avenue, said a spokesman for the Lake County coroner's office. Kowalik died of blunt trauma to the head and body, the spokesman said.

The vehicle's driver was not arrested or cited Sunday, said Cmdr. Jim Keilman, of the Cedar Lake Police Department. Investigation continued Sunday night.

"It appears that it was truly an accident," Keilman said.
