VALPARAISO | The Burger King at Cumberland Crossing has closed for remodeling and will reopen in about five weeks as a 24-hour operation.
"We are pleased to have this opportunity to bring a dramatic new look to Burger King within the new Cumberland Crossing," Steve Wiborg, chief executive officer of the franchise owner Heartland Food Corp., said.
The new look will complement the other new buildings at the former County Seat Plaza on Calumet Avenue. It will include earth-toned exterior face brick, a boxed out roof line and new awnings. A band of the company's signature red color will encircle the building near roof level to accent the BK logo signs.
New landscaping and a monument style sign will complete the exterior makeover. Inside, patrons will find a copper and thyme green color scheme, fully remodeled restrooms and seating for 68. The drive-through window will remain on the south side of the restaurant with access off the new Cumberland Crossing Drive.
The new kitchen will include a new energy-efficient broiler along with all the latest appliances.
Burger King is the latest business to sign on at the newly developed shopping plaza. Others joining the Valparaiso YMCA include Carol's Hallmark, Dairy Queen and People's Bank. The plaza is being developed by Vale Park Development LLC, which is a unit of the Valparaiso-based Urschel Development Corp.
