Courthouse power outage leads to re-shuffling of cases
After Thursday's storm knocked out the electricity and communications and caused the Markham courthouse to close, criminal cases of those in custody who were scheduled for Friday have been moved to Monday.
Defendants out on bond facing felonies will be heard Aug. 31. Civil cases scheduled for Friday are also continued to Aug. 31 at the previously-scheduled time and courtroom.
Traffic and misdemeanor cases of those who are out on bond are continued to Sept. 28, at the previously scheduled time and courtroom.

Back-to-school picnic slated for Sesto Park
Alderman Willie White, of the 1st Ward, and Mayor Anthony DeLuca will hold a back-to-school picnic at 11 a.m. today at Sesto Park, Western Avenue and Beacon Boulevard.
There will be music and free hot dogs and hamburgers.
Free haircuts and school supplies also will be provided, as well as discount vouchers for girls' hair care.

Voters' league to meet host a potluck dinner
The public is invited to the Homewood-Flossmoor Area League of Women Voters' first regular meeting of the year Monday.
The meeting will be at 6 p.m. at the Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., directly across from the train station.
There will be a potluck dinner provided by the league's members. Local legislators have been invited to attend.

Historical study to look at former defense sites
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Louisville is looking for people with knowledge of the former Nike Battery C-46 located between Calumet Avenue and Burnham Avenue south of 45th Avenue in Munster.
The corps of engineers would also like to speak with any with information about the Calumet Harbor Yards, located at the northeast intersection of 103th Street and Stony Island Avenue in Chicago.
