Kickboxing | Calumet City

Get Fit With Kickboxing will be offered by the Calumet Memorial Park District from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays, Oct. 28 until Dec. 5. The resident fee is $25 per participant. Registration is required, and is now being taken at the Sandridge Fitness Center, 600 Oglesby Ave.

Audubon society | South Holland

Sand Ridge Audubon Society meets at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 3 at Sand Ridge Nature Center, 15890 Paxton Ave. Following a short business meeting, the program of the evening will be the annual slide-in, a potpourri of slides and environmental observations. There is no charge to attend and all are welcome.

Gramma's Attic | Homewood

The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District is looking for crafters to sell wares at its popular Gramma's Attic craft show. It will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Irwin Community Center, 18120 Highland Ave. Gramma's Attic features arts and crafts, collectibles, antiques, hot dog lunch, bake sale and raffle. Admission is free for shoppers.

Building sale | Glenwood

There will be an old Glenwood-Lynwood Library building sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 4 at 320 Glenwood-Lansing Road. Everything must go including furniture, shelving and office supplies. Cash and carry only.

Depression | University Park

As part of National Depression Screening Week, the Academic Resource Center's Counseling Center at Governors State University will host informal seminars, provide information and offer free, confidential depression screening. Free movie | Lansing

College prices | South Holland

South Holland Public Library, 16250 Wausau Ave., will host Don't Pay The College Sticker Price at 7 p.m. Oct. 16. Joseph Orsolini will introduce three key areas of opportunity to reduce the overall cost of a college education. He will focus on strategies to maximize need-based financial aid eligibility, target the right colleges for merit-based aid and exploit tax-saving opportunities. Registration is necessary.

Farmers' market | Thornton

Guest speaker | Chicago Heights

The Rev. Jack Diel, director of Intercambio Cultural Maya, will speak at the 9:30 a.m. adult Sunday school class and 11 a.m. worship service Oct. 5 at First Presbyterian, 900 Thomas. Diel's group works with service learning projects in the Yucatan region of Mexico.

Lung cancer walk | Chicago

The second Pauline Moraco-Arredondo Lung Cancer Walk & Rally will kick off at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 4 at the William W. Powers State Fish and Wildlife Area, 12949 S. Avenue O. Proceeds from the event will benefit the LUNGevity Foundation, the nation's leading private supporter of lung cancer research. Online registration/donations are recommended but are also available the day of the walk. The first 100 walkers will receive a goodie bag and T-Shirt. Refreshments will be provided to all. Allyson and David Arredondo, of Hobart, started the event to honor David's mother, Pauline. She was diagnosed with lung cancer in April 2004 and died 11 months later.

Fall bingo | Hammond

The Ladies' Aid Society of Faith United Church of Christ will host fall bingo starting at 1 p.m. Oct. 5 at the church, 3030 175th St. Lunch will be sold from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be special raffles and door prizes. Canned goods can be brought to donate to the food pantry.

Casino trip | Whiting

The Whiting Parks and Recreation Department will take a trip to Blue Chip Casino on Oct. 15. Bus will leave at 8 a.m. from the Whiting Community Center and will return about 3 p.m. Registration deadline is Oct. 6. Fee of $25 includes bus, a $10 food voucher toward a buffet or food court lunch and $10 free slot play after you've earned 1,500 points.

Forum | Whiting

The Faith Enrichment Committee and the Peace and Justice Commission of the Whiting/Robertsdale Catholic Cluster have planned an evening to practice faithful citizenship. It will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 9 in the St. John Mural Room at St. John the Baptist, 119th Street and Lincoln Avenue. Guest presenters will conduct a forum on the topic of voting your conscience.

Artisans meet | Munster

Animal service | Munster

The St. Francis blessing of the animals service will be hosted by the Environmental Missions Team at 9 a.m. Oct. 4 at Ridge United Methodist Church, 8607 Columbia Ave. This special service for pets and their owners is conducted in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi's love for all creatures. It will be held on the outside lawn (weather permitting). Dogs must be leashed and smaller pets should either be leashed or secured in carriers.

RETIREES LUNCH | Merrillville

GOLF OUTING | Crete

Lake Central Baseball Stadium Club will host its Inaugural Golf Outing on Oct. 4 at Lincoln Oaks Golf Course in Crete. Registration is at 9:30 a.m., followed by an 18-hole scramble shotgun start at 10:30. Entry fee is $90 for golf, use of cart, range, dinner, gifts and prizes. Dinner for non-golfers is $20. Hole sponsorships are available for $100.
